RESCUE holds side event at COP29
By Andria Nicodemou
RESCUE, in collaboration with the PROVIDE project, organises a side event at COP29 on the need for CDR and cryosphere risks.
COP29, the annual United Nations Climate Change conference, takes place on 11-22 November 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The conference brings together world leaders and experts to discuss and decide on strategies related to pressing climate matters.
This year, RESCUE partners participate in the conference and bring the latest project insights on the role of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) in climate policy at a side event organised in collaboration with the European project PROVIDE.
Taking place on Wednesday 20th November at 18:00 Baku time / 15:00 CET at the ICCI Cryosphere pavilion, the session will involve a panel discussion on the need for CDR on the road to net zero emissions and limiting or potentially reversing warming and the risks for the cryosphere. Titled "The Need for Preventive CDR to Limit Long-term Cryosphere Risks", the session will cover a portfolio of CDR methods that can be potentially deployed, while exploring their potential and drawbacks, and the need for preventive CDR. Speakers from IIASA, Climate Analytics, Imperial College London, and the International Cryosphere Climate Initiative will take part in the session. This side event will be live streamed on the ICCI Youtube channel, while more information can be found here.
The new Policy Brief prepared by RESCUE on the new scenarios developed in the project is also addressed at the session.
