RESCUE kick-off: Consortium partners come together in Barcelona, Spain

By Editor

The consortium partners of RESCUE come together for fruitful discussions on their future plans and the research to be conducted in the project.

On 27-29 September 2022, the RESCUE project kick-off meeting was held at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center headquarters in Barcelona, Spain. The kick-off meeting gathered together scientists from 17 institutions based in 11 countries to discuss the research to be carried out during the project, investigating “climate and Earth system responses to climate neutrality and net negative emissions”.

The four-year Horizon Europe project explores carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies and suitable pathways to achieve climate neutrality, taking into account multiple aspects of the Earth system response, such as mean climate and extremes, sea-level rise, global carbon cycling, biodiversity and ecosystem services.

During the following years, the project aims to quantify the climate and Earth system responses to pathways achieving climate neutrality by CDR deployment, as well as assess the potential role of CDR in reducing net greenhouse gas emissions, as well as its potential environmental risks and co-benefits.

This hybrid kick-off meeting was successful in providing the attendees a space to detail and plan the research and actions needed to achieve the two main objectives of the project.
