RESCUE holds international policy workshop series in September 2024
By Andria Nicodemou
The project invites policymakers and researchers to a series of webinars and a workshop held in Berlin, Germany
As the role of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) in the road to climate neutrality is becoming increasingly clear, state-of-the-art and actionable science is needed to inform policies and keep with the Paris Agreement goals. However, bringing the latest research to policy makers can be a challenging task, and more ways for interaction between these fields is necessary.
The RESCUE project is aiming to bridge this gap through the International Policy Workshop series, held in September 2024.
This series will provide a platform for exchange between CDR researchers and policy experts, with the aim to improve the understanding of key research questions on CDR and the uncertainties and limitations of models, while gaining a better understanding of needs and questions on CDR in the policy context to limit warming to 1.5°C. Preliminary results from the RESCUE project will be also shared in these sessions.
The series consists of two webinars (12 and 19 September), followed by an in-person workshop taking place in Berlin, Germany on 24 September 2024, with the possibility of virtual participation. More information about the sessions is available below:
Webinar 1: Science focus
12 September 2024, 10:00-12:00 CEST (virtual)
This first webinar will focus on the science of CDR, in a way that makes it accessible to policy experts. We want to share key research questions that the scientific community tries to answer and how RESCUE fits into this environment. We will then focus on model types we work with in RESCUE and share what questions and level of granularity we are able to address, and where limitations lie.
Webinar 2: Policy focus
19 September 2024, 15:00-17:00 CEST (virtual)
This second webinar will focus on policy relevant to CDR, in a way that makes it accessible to scientists. The aim is to gain a shared understanding of key policies and policy processes on CDR at the EU and international level, what are current questions, and how science can inform them as well as be informed by them.
Workshop: Towards policy-relevant results
24 September 2024, 12:30-18:30 CEST
Berlin, Germany (hybrid)
The workshop will bring together the learnings from the two webinars, deepen exchanges, promote networking, and identify ways forward to collaborate.
How to participate?
Policy experts and researchers working on CDR and related topics are invited to attend the series. It should be noted that there is limited availability for participation in the event. In addition, there is a possibility for expenses to be covered for invited participants, subject to availability. Finally, since the events form part of a series, it is highly recommended to attend all three parts.
