RESCUE Climate Challenge: An educational game on CDR for all ages!
By Editor
The RESCUE Climate Challenge is an interactive and educational game aimed at all ages, helping to learn about CDR and climate change concepts.
Besides delivering state-of-the-art research on carbon dioxide removal (CDR) and climate neutrality scenarios, another important objective of the RESCUE project involves making the project's science accessible and bringing it to society.
To achieve this, the RESCUE team has developed the "RESCUE Climate Challenge". This educational and interactive game deep dives into the causes and consequences of climate change, and encourages a discussion on potential solutions for mitigation. Aimed at all ages and suitable for both adults and children from 10 years old, the challenge allows participants to interact, discuss and reflect while learning about climate change and the potential uses of CDR.
The RESCUE Climate Challenge consists of a series of cards on different climate concepts that should be ordered from causes of climate change to its consequences and then potential solutions. At the back of each card, the concept is explained in detail. The challenge takes about 30-45 minutes to complete, depending on the level of discussions and understanding of the audience, and is currently available in two languages: English (found below, and in the 'Resource library' page) and Spanish.

Bringing the game to the Barcelona Science Festival 2025
On Saturday 31 May, the RESCUE communication team from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center brought the game to a wide audience at the 18th Barcelona Science Festival (Festa de la Ciència). At this event, the participants found out more about RESCUE and carbon removal, after which they were split into groups to complete the challenge.

The game and project's research is expected to be further brought to activities at local schools and other upcoming events.
